Ringside might not be the most amazing place in the world but its done a lot for the music scene in Hull that doesnt get recognised by tenfootcity and sandman, Ringside has been home for the punk/metal/hardcore/emo/ska scenes for years and what you have to understand that the bands that are touring dont expect a fancy swanky venue, they expect some small place thats got character with a good bunch of people there to watch decent music, Ringside is one of many venues across the UK that offer a chance for smaller bands from all across the UK a chance to play in a different city, and likewise big bands, loads of local bands play there everyweek because they know there guarenteed a crowd, the sound system has been vastly inproved over the last year and now sounds good and the place its self is slow making more and more impovements! ringside is great and does a lot for the underdog music scene, who cares what it looks like, its about the music!
A Gig Venue? What a friggin JOKE……. I could hold a better gig in my back bedroom……
For those of you who haven’t yet been, heres what your ‘missing out’ on….
- Once you step in, you feel like you’ve walked into your Nanas house with the RANK décor
- It smells like your Nanas House, just to add to the Oldie feeling
- The Seats look like they’ve been dragged out of a skip on Orchard Park with sponge seeping out of ‘em
- Go to a gig there and you’ll feel like your on the set of Byker Grove with a load of 14yr old ‘OWH im out on a school night!’ girls
- The Stage looks like something on a Gameshow from the 80’s with Gold Glitter Curtains…………..Please!
…………I genuinely feel sorry for bands that actually travel from afar to play at that place, it must be an absolute LET DOWN….. and we too should feel ashamed to have them play there, what if they think we all live like that?!?!
Downstairs…..
- Go down if you dare………… Its either full of Bikers singing, ‘I can be Your Hero’ on Kareoke, or full of Trannies (Obviously depends on what night you go)
I honestly cannot be in the Rankings as a gig venue, it aint a venue, its like stepping into another Relm………. Theres just something not right about the place, it DEFINITELY needs an update

Wod up peeps,
I thought I may as well jump on the band wagon as well.
Hi my name is Ricky Walker and im the new resident d.j. @ The Ringside on a saturday night, now I have been a d.j. for 14 years and I have to say that The Ringsides sound system is up there with the best not only in the main bar but in the Function room as well. its so loud, so Banging and yet still so crystal clear. I know, I know that i play cds and they are a lot better quality anyway but I have done work with live bands and when u have been in the industry as long as I have u know a crap sound system when u hear it and The Ringsides not 1 of them.
Any way as the title says The ringsides taking off starting with a saturday night The Ringsides getting better.
Join Me D.j. RICKY WALKER 4 the best of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s & NOW including all ur favorate school reunion and party tracks every saturday from 8pm til close music played 4 u requested by u

Firstly, I would just like to introduce myself. I’m Wayne, the Landlord of Ringside.
May I point out that everyone is entitled to their opinion so I accept any comments, whether good or bad, about the Ringside.
I would like to say that our PA/speaker systems are probably one of the best in Hull. We actually had it installed by DJ Chippy who is running the “Bug” nights at the Zebra. It is a fantastic system but can only sound good if:
1. The bands are good
2. The sound technician is good
3. The crowd do not expect CD quality, as the bands are live (And better for it).
The system does do the bands justice and the majority are more than happy with what is used. Maybe you have been on a night when one of the above was lacking but that should be no reflection on The Ringside as a whole
Also, there are very few places in Hull who are not just cashing in on the “dance and RnB” crowed but are supplying a venue for local and national bands. The Ringside may be smaller than a lot of venues but at the end of the day, it is a good venue with a close proximate to places like Welly and The Lamp. I like to think that we (The Adelphi, Lamp and Welly) all work well together to provide an alternative catchment of pubs and clubs that are not dedicated to the usual mainstream music.
I will continue to provide a venue for all who want to play and will continue to make the place better with the right suggestions.
Thank You for your comments
