SUB STANDARD JACK, THE JOHNSONS, THE TALKS
This weeks Sesh got involved with the likes of Sub Standard Jack, The Johnsons and The Talks.
First up were Sub Standard Jack, a 3 piece band from Beverley and this was there first time playing at the Sesh and by gum did they pull off a corker! These guys have got the sound of Blink 182 and the vocals of Billy Joe, pumping out some belting tunes that got your feet tapping and made you sing along even if you didn’t know the words.
I found myself smiling the whole way through this gig and just felt like giving these fresh 17 years olds a big hug and squeeze for doing so god damn well! The Sound was spot on, the vocals were excellent and the drummer had a cheesy grim on his face the whole way through, you could really tell that these guys loved playing gigs more than Christmas morning! I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of these 3 musketeers very shortly!
Next up were the Johnsons, regulars of The Sesh and usually they headline, but not this time. These guys have definitely got something more than a bar full of larger to cheer up a crowd!
They’ve got a definite Rancid style about them, very upbeat with a lot of ‘woooahs!’ to join in with! The vocalist Matt did make me feel a little ‘hair conscious’ the way he kept on playing with his but I reckon if I heard one of their songs in a club, it’d definitely make me wanna get my groove on!
Like Rancid cracked over the head with The Libertines, The Johnsons.
Headlining were The Talks, and they ARE something to talk about. These guys got me jigging at their very first song. And with a song about ‘city Hull’ that made you feel nothing but proud to be a fellow hullian!
The Talks are a ska band with a sprinkle of reggae and a Pete Doherty front man look-a-like. They sound a little like Reel Big Fish and the crowd absolutely loved them. Although they were on so it was probably a mixture between the vocalists cheeky charm, jig-tastic tunes, and 6 pints of larger that got their tails wagging!
Either way, I’ve got my fingers crossed that’ll be at Leeds festival this year because I’d definitely wanna see these guys again.

48 hours later - enough time to reflect on what was quite simply one of our finest Sesh nights at The Linnet in the last three years. Thank you to everyone who was there to perform or absorb. It truly was a magical night. What an atmosphere ! Oh, I love a party with a happy atmosphere !!!
Fonda 500 reigned supreme, The Holy Orders were abrasive yet majestic and The Rocky Nest were a quirky treat for all.
What did you think ?
While Im at it :
Who do you want to see play at The Sesh ?
Whats been your favourite Sesh gig of the last three years ?
How can I improve the night ?
Whens the backlash coming ?
Its not about hairstyles ! Should I grow my ... toenails ?
Less Chat .. more music you gobby Torquay Twat ?
Who wants exclusive Grapevine Membership cards thatll get you in the club for £1 for life ?
Hands up if I should do another Sesh Compilation ? Do they do any good, really !
Whos your favourite local drummer ?
Maltesers or Revels ? Now thats the big question !
Whos going to the Leeds Festival ?
