I went to see Athlete last night, and found out at the last moment that Boy Kill Boy were supporting (Id actually never heard them, but the two kids I went with were rather up for hearing them live, especially Suzie).
After getting there and having a couple of pints (a must, dont kid yourselves) Bou Kill Boy got started, no messing about, no introductions, they just came on, greeted the audience and went straight into it.
This being the first time Id seen, or even heard the band, I wasnt quite sure what to expect and I cant say that I was left disappointed. Im still not sure what half of the songs I heard were called, but Im definately going out to get their album after seeing them. I felt that they were full of passion and enjoyed every second of it and just didnt seem to care that half the crowd were there for Athlete, evening calling us "Athletes crowd" when introducing the crowd to the rest of the band. I found their songs to be catchy, but not to the point youre finding it annoyingly catchy. I thoroughly enjoyed the band, and am hoping to catch them again when theyre back in Hull at Welly.
Now, Athlete.. what else can I say? Fantastic. I know theyre not everyones cup of tea, and a lot of people find them boring and whiney, but what would life be if we all liked the same stuff, eh? Knowing the reason why the song Wires was written, and what its all about brought extra... emotion to both the band and the crowd when they started playing it. Other bands Ive seen have often appeared drained, and even sounded that way towards the end of the gig, but not Athlete. From start to finish, they again just seemed to love every second they were on that stage. What did make me laugh, was a kid infront of me who left before the encore saying "Bloody hell, is that it?". He must have just been getting to the door when they came back out, obviously not a regular gigger! I was, however, left a little disappointed when didnt play Modern Maffia or El Salvador, the former just because its a personal favourite of mine, but nearly everyone Ive spoke to know Athlete for two songs - Wires and El Salvador. Ah well, cant have everything we want, can we?
All being said, it was a truely awesome night. Id recommend both bands to others, and definately recommend that they are caught live.

I really wanted to go to funky at asylum but it was student only...i dont think thats very fair to deprive us non students of our shinobi needs just because we dont want to get into a load of debt and mong around like dirty scrubbers...no offence students
boo asylum!
Saw The Feeling last night at Asylum and I thought they were quality!
The warm-up act were pretty good as well, i think they were called Castle????
Ill defo be going to see them next time they are in Hull which isnt as part of their February tour
Anyway, once they got on stage, they sounded great, looked hot and gave us all value for our hard earned money! It wasnt flashy - it was just great live music!
