Abbie Lammas Ringside Charity Gig Sunday 7th December 2008.
I have to admit that I was slightly sceptical about seeing another teenage singer/songwriter/guitarist (maybe X factor has numbed my ability to be nice to teenage artists???) but as soon the first chords for Abbies sound check were heard I actually stopped doing my Sudoku to listen!
For such a young lady Abbie has a voice that with a little more applied restraint will blow windows apart. Very reminiscent of Dolores ORiordan (Cranberries singer), singing genuine words torn from the heart of teenage angst in a more likeable sort of Avril Lavigne way.
She doesnt push her voice like so many people do to force a vibrato effect (which can sound incredibly pretentious and overdone at times in my opinion) but her words really seem to have emotion behind them as opposed to being forced.
I have to admit I was genuinely touched by the words of the final song of her set (I forgot the name, sorry!) about a model whod died of Aids, brought up goosebumps for me.
Only thing I would suggest is for Abbie to ease off on the rambling between songs! Not all of your songs sound crap or the same as the others and believe it or not, the audience actually want to hear you and are (usually!) not forced to stand there listening to you so stop being so self-depreciating, enjoy the stage and most of all enjoy the fact that people genuinely like listening to you.
Definately a girl to watch for the future to, just please dont turn all emo on us Abbie like so many others have done
