I was there on Friday too
Storming gig wasnt it?
I reckon I must have seen this band live more than any other and love them dearly
They never disappoint and have to be one of the best bands to catch live......and I mean local or otherwise
Glad to see them still winning new converts
I enjoyed the interview too
Simons a character isnt he? Hulls musical landscape could do with a few more characters and a few less scenesters
And If the new album does capture the live sound then I cannae wait
Cheers x

Fonda 500 @ Adelphi
Fonda 500 came back to town and played at the Adelphi last Friday.
Even though there was a 20-minute wait whilst they sorted out the Bass Guitar, it was definitely worth the wait. This was the 1st time I’d seen these city slickers after hearing so many good things about them I thought it was about time I went to see for myself.
And I wasn’t disappointed! In fact, I’m lying when I say I hadn’t heard them before because I had heard a song on Maks Sesh album that I received a while back. A song called ‘Super Chimpanzee’, which, for a Monkey lover like me, I immediately fell in love with!
Anyhoo, The Adelphi was rammed, people were smiling, singing and even the ‘Adephi dogs’ tail was having a good old wag.
The front man Simon, I’d describe as a grumpy bear who IS Fonda 500. Sat in front of his teenie keyboard he’ll play a song, have a moan and play another. Not like your usual front man who prances around stage, wearing tight jeans and telling everyone to F**k Off like you tend to get nowadays, which is what makes them nicely different.
If you’re a regular of the Adelphi, you may already recognise the bassist when she did a few solo pieces who went by the name of Harvey, now goes by Bod. She puts all her effort onto every song played until the last song where she actually laid on the floor STILL playing! ‘you show ‘em girl!’ Loved it.
The sound that these guys produce is kinda hard to explain but I genuinely think that there’s not a person who couldn’t appreciate what they were pumping out. I can only describe it as the type of music that’d put a smile on your face when you’re driving on a sunny morning with your window down and the wind in your hair!
These guys are all down to earth, all still work their usual jobs but just want to make music.
The only thing that troubled me a little was that before they played, Simon said (woohoo that’s sounds like that nursery game!) that this was their last gig, but then again I think that’s just his sense of humour.
The Panda Hat made it for me, to see a grumpy bloke sat on a tiny stool behind a tiny keyboard wearing a hat that covered his eyes with Panda ears sewn on?! WTF?! But it’s great! Like a one man band who hides his identity under this hat as he beat boxes, sings and plays the keyboard. Everything comes together with the help of the rest of the band members, who are extremely energetic on stage (maybe to make up for the frontmans lack of movement and his grumpily sulks behind his keyboard) – but this is his character, this is and his sarcastic comments in between songs ARE what makes them so good to watch live and THIS is what people love about Fonda 500.
