Alfie Appleton has been the proud owner of Chinese Laundry for nigh on 4 years now supplying everything Vintage to shoppers on the prowl for something that little bit different in the Hull City Centre. You may recognise Alfie from such local bands as The Go-Go Kings.

For those select few who have yet to educate themselves in the wonders of Chinese Laundry let’s just set the record straight. It’s not a laundrette, in fact you’ll probably be shown the door if you walk in with a bin bag full of Darks, and has nothing to do with being or wanting to look like a China man, although it is opposite the infamous Chinese Buffett at May Sum (Just £4.95 a head!)

Back to the story. Alfie Appleton isn’t your stereotypical fashion bod and doesn’t claim to be in any sense a Fashion guru, he has no qualifications in fashion but has always had a keen eye for what looks good and after all there’s no such thing as a degree in common sense, despite it probably needing to be an essential for some fashion types with their heads in the clouds. Most of all Alfie is a grafter you can trust and regularly moves his stock on to make way for new lines all the time so you’re never bored with what’s on offer. There’s nothing worse then going into a shop and seeing the same boring clobber you saw last month.

Alfie gets his stock from all over Europe and as far as America so you’re almost guaranteed to get something that little bit more original and unlike the mass produced garbage that you’ll find on the high street. In fact right now Alfie has a massive range of rare American Converse on offer that can’t and won’t be found anywhere else in the area.

Alfie also stocks re-work clothing from local designers such as ‘Reformed’

Luckily Alfie’s on the ball, he’s no Gok Wan but like I said, he’s a grafter and as its supposedly Summer Chinese Laundry have a wide range of Summer clothes to keep you looking dapper including 80’s Shorts, 80’s Tees, Checked Shirts, A-Line Skirts, Summer Dresses and neon Jeans.

 

Luckily for you, you don’t have to be a millionaire to shop at Chinese Laundry, in fact with most items under a tenner even Dole scum like you can afford it!

Chinese Laundry also have a ‘Sale Rail’ all year round where all items are a measly £2 and just next to the Sale rail you’ll find the Bargain Basket full of shoes for just £3…and next to the Bargain Basket you find the discount desk …and so on and so forth until you’ve made your way around the shop with an armful of clobber to take to the till!

 

Chinese Laundry is one of the few places in Hull where you’re guaranteed to find gig tickets to all the best gigs and events happening around the City. Chinese Laundry work quite closely with YoYo, Under The Influence, Club NME, Asylum, Adelphi and local festivals so if your after a ticket just pop in.

 

No plans are set in stone yet but Alfie is planning on expanding Chinese Laundry and even talks of his own label are in the Pipeline – Watch this space!
