Location: Linnet & Lark
The Sesh: Sub Standard Jack, The Johnsons & The Talks
Date: 24.04.07
The Talks: Sort of end of July last year, early August and the first gig was here at The Sesh
HullVibe: Who were your inspirations to start a band?
The Talks: That’s a toughie because we were all in bands before. I’d say probably The Clash and The Specials.
HullVibe: Where’s your favourite place to play in Hull?
The Talks: hmm…for the people I’d say The Sesh but for the sound I’d say Welly
HullVibe: Do any of your fans do your heads in or is everyone being pretty decent at the moment?
The Talks: They don’t really do our heads in but err… there is a few of the female variety who tend to log on quite a lot. It’s not too much to handle! We’re still quite a new band at the minute.
HullVibe: Would any of you drink your own urine for £100?
The Talks: ‘Yeah I would!’ – ‘I’d probably need a little more than that I reckon, maybe £150’
HullVibe: Have any of you ever used ‘I’m in a band’ to pull?
The Talks: (Jo goes bright red) Err.. No, no its easier to pull because your in a band but you don’t go the angle of ‘I’m in a band’ to pull. You invite them to the gig whilst you’re on stage, it’s a lot easier then!
HullVibe: Have any of you ever let one go on stage and it’s really stunk?
The Talks: I’ve smelt something a few times yeah! But actually…err…I can’t think! Have I farted on stage yet? (Jo asks other band members) I think we’re all a bit scared but probably let go a few squeakers I reckon.
HullVibe: Have any of you played whilst being drunk?
The Talks: All the time! We try not to get too wrecked but it depends on what slot we’re on, if we’re first on we’re all pretty sober but if we’re last were usually f****d by then! So tonight should be pretty entertaining! We’ve all arranged lifts!
HullVibe: Your best ever gig so far?
The Talks: Err.. Bristol academy, The Buzz at the Soundhaus in Northampton,
HullVibe: You worst gig?
The Talks: Err..The one we did in Swindon was quite weird. It wasn’t maybe the worst but it was in like an eating pub sort of thing with no stage lighting. It was like playing in your living room or in your kitchen!
HullVibe: Any other decent bands you’ve noticed creeping up in the Hull Music scene?
The Talks: The Landaus definitely now Chris has joined, they were wicked the last time I saw them. The Johnsons I love. Turismo, I saw them at The Sesh the other week but sound wise it wasn’t too good but the band were good.
HullVibe: What’s your gig line-up for the next couple of months?
The Talks: We’ve just finished a tour and have started booking again. Tomorrow we’re in Northampton, err The Borderline, London. South Sea on Thursday, that’s a random one.
We’ve got a gig with The Good Shoes coming up as well at Inverness, Pwoar! It’s like 12 hours away! It’s near Kinloss.
Kinloss was our most random gig. It was in a loft, which was rammed and it took 12 hours to get home. It was pretty much on a farm, this little place called Kinloss near Inverness and it was a farm that must have been 5 or 6 miles away from anywhere but people just seemed to come!
HullVibe: Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?
The Talks: In a sunny country! With a nice manageable amount of money, some records with some nice guitars!
HullVibe: Are you playing any festivals this year?
The Talks: Well we’ve got Humberfest in at the moment and a few others to be confirmed. Maybe Leeds, maybe Glastonbury but the only one confirmed at the minute is Humberfest, should all be confirmed by the end of the month.
