The New Fuel
I must admit that I have a soft spot for Fuel. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad night in there. One of the places in Hull where you can go to and be guaranteed no trouble, a friendly atmosphere and by the end of the night you’ll be making a prat of yourself dancing on top of some sort of speaker, bar, or any other surface you can climb on top of. Love it. So when I heard they were having a 500k re-furb I HAD to check it out ASAP, knowing that the Fuel guys don’t do things in halves I knew that whatever they had up their sleeves would be spectacular.
I’d planned to go on the VIP night on Thursday, free champers and canapés on arrival with the usual fabulous entertainment by Rusty and the girls, all sounded brill but unfortunately they were running late on the Open night and so was I, so I opted for the Friday instead.
I bounced in at around 12ish and took a quick scan of where I was.
OH MY LIFE! Stilt walkers, robots with fireworks, drag queens, polyester balls flying, electro music, lights flashing…all my favourite things had flashed before my eyes in literally 20 seconds, I didn’t know what to do first! And the bar?! It’d lifted up its skirt and ran to the other side of the room to be planted to the left as you walk in. Smart move I say, made the place seem a hell of a lot bigger. I was a little jealous that I couldn't be a glam drag queen :-( everyone looked fab.
As it was the open night it was rammed but still easy to get served at the bar, I grabbed a drink and wandered into what is now the ‘Raunchy Rusty Room’.
I’d come from the main room, the ‘Funky Electro Room’ into Rustys Resident pad, more your classic songs like Pink, Sugarbabes and all that poppy cheese type stuff. And there she was in all her glory, stood on her throne with two hot guys wearing leather thongs rubbing baby oil on eachother and play fighting.
Where else do you get entertainment like that?!
After that I’d seen Steve from Propaganda. I was so excited about the new fuel I must have been talking about 10 words per second. It was then when I was treated to another surprise, ‘Have you seen the chill out room?’ I thought,’huh?' There’s another room too?!’ And sure enough hidden towards the left hand side of the stage was another secret room, the ‘Red room’. And it was very red! Red lights, red seats and décor from floor to ceiling. A perfect place to escape from the music and have a natter.
I was extreamely impressed with the new Fuel but there was just one thing that I wasn’t much of a fan about. The Smoking area. Being the dirty smoker that I am, the smoking area of a club is an important factor to my night out. Fuel didn’t have a smoking area but a gazebo out on the front next to the public toilets. Not perfect. But I was reassured that they were building a smoking terrace so this was only a temporary glitch.
Anyhoo, I’ve only got 2 words to some up my thoughts of the new Fuel and without trying to sound like Paris Hilton…’Love it’, I’ll definitely be going back there shortly so I can get on my party head and dancing shoes!
See you there J
