The Sesh
Tuesday 22nd May, The Linnet & Lark
Afterglow, Dazed Dakotaz & GST Cardinals
This Tuesday was one of those you’d been waiting for all freaking year. FINALLY you didn’t have to rush into the Linnet to get in, get your pint and get cosy. It was one of those nights where you could AT LONG LAST sit outside with a pint and a fag and didn’t have to keep your hands between your legs to stay warm.
Anyhoo, this weeks Sesh kicked off with Afterglow. Former headliners at the Sesh but this time they were first to warm up the stage.
I feel a little sorry for these buggers as they were the first on and the crowd were still a little timid. They had the sound of an 80s rock band but these guys must have only been in their early 20’s IF THAT.
This band were like a bag of pick ‘n’ mix from your local sweet shop, with a guitarist who looked strangley like Donny Tourette from the Towers of London, an Indie looking frontman and a bassist wearing an ACDC shirt. HOW MANY INFLUENCES DO YOU WANT?!
Good sound with a few metal guitar solo’s sandwiched inbetween a rock/Indie sound.
What I really liked about Afterglow was the fact that the frontman didn’t steal the limelight and even got the guitarist and bassist up on the mic. GOOD SHARING SKILLS BOYO!
ADVICE:… PERLEASE guys, don’t wear your sunglasses on stage, I know the bright lights on the Linnet stage may be a little too much but you really DON’T need to wear ‘em J
Over the Hills and far away (Grimsby actually) Dazed Dakotas come out to play…
Now these guys had a pretty good beat to them, and were RIGHT entertainers to watch. The frontman was going crazy over the tunes so were a bloody great band to watch, with the lead singer letting his freak hang loose all over the stage!
Definitely got a few more bodies moving in the old Linnet, which brought up the temperature!
Headlining were old faves of The Sesh were GST Cardinals. OH MY LIFE. –nuff said.
I’ve not seen a crowd go so crazy over a band in the Linnet in a long while but these party dogs were well up for it!
From the very first song the Cardinals kicked up a crowd like something you’d see at 50% off day at Debenhams. But these folk weren’t clothes craving crazy freaks, but guys going mental over their music.
The poor bloody bouncers from the Linnet and Lark even had to put down their kebabs and step in to keep the crowd at bay and stop people from stage diving!
Honest to god, these guys have got something about them, I’ve convinced myself they’re the next to be stolen from our comfortable little Hull circit and be dragged off to bigger, better things
The whole band put on an awesome show and with front man Dave climbing over everything and everyone in sight like a Chimpanzee on steroids, puffing on a fag while he was singing in true Lily Allen style.
Awesome set guys, and good luck at getting on the bill at Leeds Festival this year, see you there!
