Live Music at Sharkeys is here and it's here to stay...

Adelphi, The Sesh, The Welly Club & The Lamp will always be favourites when it comes to watching live bands in our City but it was about time that someone in the City centre did something to cater for our ever growing live music needs. There may be a few bars and clubs that'll be more then happy to hold a gig now and again but it's about time we had another regular contender. It can now be revealed that Sharkeys, George Street will be the host of 3 live music nights a week offering a variety of bands to cater for a wide range of musical tastes, not forgetting their huge cocktail menu to wash them down with.

I must stress that this won’t be a one off, trial, half arsed effort to jump on the live music 'Band' wagon or a one off gig here and there as I'm told that live music at Sharkeys is on its way and its here to stay and I'm pleased to announce that they're doing it properly.

Sharkeys are, as we speak, building a huge 1/2 Meter high stage that'll stretch from one side of the building to the other, located at the back of the Bar, where the pool tables used to be from the back wall right up to the Ladies. A Permanent PA system will also reside here along with full stage lighting to give the audience a worthy gig-going as experience the way it should be.

Keep your eyes peeled for sneak preview pictures on Hullvibe which I’ll be adding on here as and when the stage is being prepared (Probably on Thursday 20th March).

Along with a fantastic new stage, lighting and PA the new re-vamped area in Sharkeys will also include room for a DJ Booth for when the stage doubles up as a dance floor till the early hours of the morning to keep the party going once the live bands have performed.

Sharkeys owner Malcolm explains, 'We did a survey with our punters a few months ago and the main thing they wanted in Sharkeys was a dance floor and a DJ booth so we're meeting their demands and giving the punters what they want as the new stage attraction in Sharkeys will also double up as a dance floor complete with DJ booth'. The bar will also announce some brand new nights complete with well known DJs very soon! (All very top secret at the moment, but we'll give you the latest on Hullvibe as and when revealed!)

TUESDAYS: MUGWUMP LAUNCHES 1ST APRIL

The 1st of their live music nights launches on TUESDAY 1ST APRIL (you fool!) with MUGWUMP the first of their Indie/Alternative nights complete with 2 live bands and it also has an open slot available for anyone who isn't necessarily in a band but fancies picking up a guitar and playing to a crowd. This is a great opportunity for budding musicians to get their music heard somewhere other than MySpace and play alongside some fantastic live acts.

Don't you just hate it when you go to see a band but spend the whole set stood behind what must be (at the time) the tallest guy in the world? This won’t be a problem at Sharkeys as they have a camera that'll face the stage and TV monitors around all areas of the bar so you won’t miss a thing where ever you are.

MUGWUMP is free entry with first act on at 9pm, each band performing a 45minute set. After a thrilling few hours of live music, Sharkeys will be leaving it's doors and bar open till late playing a wide range of Indie tunes to keep the party and drinks flowing, and punters flowing onto the new raised dancefloor.

Bands will be booked by Music HQ creator Darren Bunting and listings of who’s on, when, will be available on Hullvibe.

Bands are to be well catered for in Sharkeys Green Room

A green room will be available in Sharkeys to provide room for bands to chill out and relax and generally be pampered before their performance! MUGWUMP will not only be featuring local live bands but also bands from out of town to offer something a little different from the usual local circuit tunes. If you’re in a band or are interested in performing at MUGWUMP yourself then get in touch with Darren Bunting at darren.bunting@yahoo.co.uk

The launch night on the 1st April will be complete with T Shirt giveaways, shots and fantastic live music to celebrate it's arrival.

WEDNESDAYS: THE 9TH CIRCLE

Sharkeys will also be the home of Live Bands every Wednesday, this time with a rockier edge to it.

The night aims to showcase bands performing all genres of rock from both Hull and out of town starting from 9pm

Again the night will be totally free entry with a late licence till 2am.

Once the final band has played the last song in their set, the DJ Booth will be taken over by no other than Chris Von Trapp, who’ll be enjoying a change of scenery in Sharkeys to his usual DJ cage at Spiders. The stage can then be invaded and become the rockin’ dance floor till late.

The 9th Circle, what does it mean?

Sharkeys will be holding a fantastic drinks promotion every Wednesday that is simply brilliant, read on.

You’ll receive a postcard containing 8 circles at the bar, each circle representing a drink on the menu. Manage to drink your way through all 8 circles and you’ll be given the 9th deadly circle free of charge along with a free T shirt to prove that you’re a survivor (or not!) of that deadly 9th circle. Doing this all in one night may be the dare of the year but you do have a whole month to complete the 9 circles so pace yourself!

SUNDAYS: REHAB (launching a very special Rehab on Easter Monday for Oxjam!)

The Perfect hangover cure after a hectic, intoxicating weekend!

Every Sunday Sharkeys will be offering Rehab free of charge in the form of live chilled out music from 5pm till late.

The night will include local acoustic artists to soothe your headaches, as will the super fruit smoothies, yoggies, sorbies, coffees and snacks available from Citrus Bean (Also situated in Sharkeys). If you’d rather cure a hangover with the hair of the dog then the bar will be open as usual with its flowing cocktail menu!

Rehab on Sundays is also open for budding musicians to take to the stage with guitar and open mic.

REHAB is the perfect way to end your weekend in a relaxed environment with food available if and when you want it, anymore chilled out and it should be stored in the freezer.

Tell your Mother your going to Rehab…………….you’ll be back in the morning.
