Scenester Promotions
With one gig down and more up their sleeve, Hullvibe went to find out what’s going on with Scenester Promotions.
Scenester Promotions Name: Laura Woodhouse, Callum Clark, Martin Parkinson Age: 67!!! Occupation: Promoters Musical Interests: Live Music 1. Was the gig on the 10th the first from Scenester Promotions or are we likely to hear more?
Definately!!! We have a few more dates confirmed and all the bands are booked we are all looking forward to the next 2 gigs which we have We Are The Physics + Revenue coming up so that’s pretty exciting, we also have some really good local bands supporting aswell. 2. Are you planning more events like this? What/Where/Whens your next one?
We have ‘We Are The Physics’ on the Thursday 22nd May who are a signed band from Glasgow then on Thursday 12th June we have ‘Revenue’ who were Finalists in the T4 Mobile Act Unsigned Competition. All of our upcoming gigs are @ The New Adelphi Club in Hull but we are open to using different venues for different gigs. 3. How do you think it went?
Really well!! We really wanted to start off on a high so we felt confident about our upcoming gigs, we got quite a few people through the door and we’ve had a massive response from bands/artists wanting to play at our upcoming gigs.
4. What’s the aim of Scenester promotions?
Our aim is to be seen as a promotions company that’s a little bit different than all the others, we do want to be a part of every music scene and give people a chance to play to an audience. At the moment we are still finding out where people want to go and what they want to listen to, then we will have a clearer idea of what Bands/Artists to book!! 5. Are you planning on only holding gigs at The Adelphi Club or will they be showcased at other venues around the City?
At the moment we are just using The New Adelphi Club and hopefully we always will as if you ask any band in Hull they will agree The Adelphi really is one of the best venues to see live bands and just because it’s quite intimate the sound is awesome. 6. Do you have anything to do with Bad Taste Promotions or are they your competitors?
No we are a seperate company, But we do know them so its quite good as we don’t feel like were stepping on each others toes! Were both fairly new to the promoting world so we like to see it as healthy competition!! 7. How to bands get in touch if they're interested in playing a Scenester Promotions event?
Contact us on myspace www.myspace.com/scenesterpromotions, scenestershull@yahoo.co.uk or call 07729666519 and speak to any of us!! A lot of bands have been in touch about getting a gig and we would love to hear from more aswell so get in touch!!
8. How do you decide which bands to put on?
Well we normally spend alot of time listening to music on myspace to decide the headline act and then advertise for a support band. We want to hear from people in Hull who they would like to see play in Hull and we will see what we can arrange!! 9. Will you be promoting Local bands or do you plan to bring up and coming out of town bands to the City aswell?
Hull has sooo many bands now so 9 times out of ten the support will be local but we want to bring headline bands from other cities. 10. What's your opinion of the Hull music scene?
Hull has a massive music scene, anyone and everyone is in a band now and there are some great bands in Hull but we just want to move on a bit from seeing the same bands play at the same place. 11. Who do you think our cities best bands are at the moment?
Kick Riot, The Cliques, Turismo, The Talks + The Sorry Loves are a few of the bands with quite a big following at the moment and are all doing there own thing which is good. 12. What are the plans for Scenester promotions in the future?
Our plans are to be involved in every major music event in Hull and to keep booking some great bands, We have a lot of exciting things in the pipeline so we look forward to confirming them!!!
