My Thursday night at Pozition

By Lucy Clark,

15th Nov 2007

I used to regular to Pozition every Wednesday when they used to hold 'Bug' which was 3 floors of Alternative music with Rock downstairs, Emo and Punk in the middle floor and all sorts of crazy music from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme to Jackson 5 on the Top floor.

It used to be rammed and was the ONLY place to go on a Wednesday night back in the day!

Now that was as wee while ago, and the 'Bug' night along with my taste for that sort of music can now safely say have been locked away and buried, hopefully never to return. Not meaning to cause any offence to those who do enjoy those genres of music but my personal taste has wandered since then.

I must say that since those days, the only time i had returned to Pozition was to take pics for Hullvibe along with holding our Birthday Party there. I guess i'm saying that I had not yet been without having a Hullvibe excuse, which i though was pretty stupid.

I had witnessed Thursday nights at Pozition whilst taking photos and filming there but for once i thought i'd try it without the cameras.....It was time i experienced a Thursday night at Pozition without hiding behind a camera and a Hullvibe T Shirt! - Watchout Pozition, tonight I'm on the lash! mwah ha ha

Once upon a time...

It was Thursday 15th Nov, and I'd dragged my cameraman (Brian) around Barracuda and Revolution since 9.30, catching the pre-clubbers drinking time on camera before heading off to a club, weather it be Pozition or Sugarmill there were plenty of punters out around the old town.

It got to 11.30 and the Bars seemed to die down a little as group after group left to hit one of the 2 biggest club nights in the City Centre, Pozition and The Sugarmill.

We decided to leave, to hopefully grab the last of 'Pendulum' who were playing at the Welly club that night, although we werent planning of filming the night we were hoping just to grab a few DnB sweaty faces on camera to put the 'Pendulum Aftermath' on Hullvibe and show everyone else who couldn’t make it just what a sweat-fest they'd missed.

We arrived at The Welly Club just gone 11.30 and there was a huge Q outside. We'd missed them  :(

And the long Q outside on Bev road was of 'Jelly at Welly' regulars, waiting for Pendulum punters to swarm out before they were allowed in.

- This could only have been described as one thing - CHAOS. As angry cold Jelly punters were left shivering, still Qing at 12am .... Brian and I decided to leave it for the night and head back off home.

As i turned the corner i saw one of my friends who was about to join the long chaotic Jelly at Welly Q. I explained that i'd been filming with Brian and showed her the massive Q outside the Welly.... she wasn’t impressed either  :(

This is where the plan began...hmmm, a friend is going out and i have the next day off.....  ..THATS IT!..  ....I told her to wait while i whipped home with the Video cam, got changed, and ditched the car... I WAS COMING OUT!  :D  :D

She waited for me in lamp and literally 15 minutes later i was sharing a pint with her at Lamp.

I'd just got myself out and wasn’t planning on wasting anymore party time on standing in any Q's so we opted for Pozition. Grabbed our coats and got a taxi straight there. It was about 12am when we arrived with a Q of about 3 people..... perfectly manageable!

It was only 3 quid to get in, bargain! - although i must admit i didnt pay, as the Bouncer recognised me as 'Lucy Hullvibe' and let me sneek in tax free! - I assured him that i wasn't working tonight!

It took about 2mins to whip our coats in as i handed my black jacket to the little old lady who'd been working their since my 'rock night' days along with one english pound.

One thing i did notice about the downstairs area was the amount of bloody leaves that had WHOOSHED in! jesus christ! it was like being at Pearson Park again! - I cobbled up the stairs and went to get a drink.

Walking into the huge downstairs room which was playing 'The Beautiful South' - OH NO, you've gotta be kidding me - I thought, not that i have anything against The Beautiful South, i love singing along to them when i'm in the Car with my Mother but NOT when i'm planning on getting drunk beyond my wildest dreams and hitting the dancefloor. I already wasn't a fan of the music and grabbed myself 2 drinks instead of one to compensate for my ears bleeding. - No worries, there’s still another 2 rooms of music to chose from, not everything is everyones cuppa.

We toddled upstairs to the top floor, playing a mix of dance and something else i wasn't quite sure of but i liked it..... well i liked it after a few aftershocks. It was much easier to get to the bar up here and i must say that Qing at the bar is one of the things I'm terrible at...I'm far too impatient. This room was also my favourite for another reason......At last i could have a fag! And after climbing all those stairs I bloody deserved one! It was just like the good old days, i was warm, i had my drink in my hand, i could hear music AND I WAS SMOKING!  :D  :D  WOOHOO! Well done Pozition for your smoking ban efforts to carry on smoking, i approve very much  :D  Although whilst having a fag on the roof terrace i scanned round the decking to notice that the crowd was split up into equal groups....

THE 'AFTER WORK BOOZERS' - The group of guys still in their work suites who've clearly come out for a 'quick one' after work which has turned into an all nighter.

THE PRAT PARTY - The group of guys who decide to dress up in fancy dress for a birthday, each trying far too hard to be more stupid than the other

THE HEN DO - fussy screams, fishnets and frolicking nurses, can be heard a mile off.

I'll stop now before i stereotype anyone else, those were just a few i noticed while i enjoyed a fag and double vodka redbull on the Terrace.

A few more later we went downstairs to the RnB room. I went to the toilet whilst  listening to one girl telling her mate how much she hated men and would love to become lesbian with her mate, 'OWH YER SHAZ LETS BE LEZZAS, MEN ARE KN*BS!’ I chuckled to myself whilst putting on my eyeliner.

The RnB room was packed! And after a few more vodkas i insisted on making my way onto the dancefloor which was about as hard and trying to squeeze myself into that top of my sisters that i borrowed the other week. I managed that and I'll manage this!. RAMMED. nonetheless we made it, god knows what I was dancing to but I'm pretty sure it involved some sort of, 'shake ya booty,' 'lets get it own' lyrics, i noticed alot of grinding and ass shaking too, the whole room was getting down!

So, that was my 1st night out at Thursday at Pozition, and here's why i liked it:

-Cheap entry! for 3 quid! - Thats cheaper than your taxi fare!

- Staff - were all wearing Pozition T shirts with 'Hullvibe' on the other side of them. It always makes me smile when i see 'Hullvibe' anywhere else apart from on me!

- DRINK! QUICK! - and thats what i got, quick drinks!

MUSIC- Despite my love of indie music i did manage to dance to a few dance tracks and even a few RnB, and there was me thinking i wouldn't like ANYTHING! -wrong!

- Smoking freedom! - At least! a club where you can enjoy a drink and a fag at the same time! - most places nowadays make you leave your drink while you go outside (despite having posters saying 'dont leave your drink unattended)

LOO's - And plenty of, theres nothing i hate more than having to Q for the loo, and then having no mirror space to do my eyeliner, Pozition has plenty!

Why I didn't like Pozition

- I fell over on the middle floor whilst making my way to the loo's... My fault tho i guess, not Pozitions!

A brilliant night, i really enjoyed it, and seeing as though i have Friday off again this week, i might even think about making a double appearance  :D
