Headliners at the weeks Sesh were Lecorum... go on...

Hull born 4 piece like the rest have played at most the usual dives in the area, you know the pretty easy gigs that any man and his banjo could play (no offence to Jim Sorrow, your great on banjo Jim). Don't get me wrong, it is a great little circuit of live music nights that we've got going on in Hull but once you've played 'em, then what? Well most just go round again, like a friggin merry-go-round with the occasional out of town gig if you can get it.

Unlike many others, Lecorum have already latched onto big names such as Orson, The Hoosiers, Cherry Ghost, Tiny Dancers, The Sunshine Underground, Palladium and The Automatic and they only had their first gig in 2007, how many other Hull based bands can you say that about?

Lecorum certainly seem to have gotten off on the right foot landing themselves with such quality support slots which has made massive effects to their ever growing fan base.

The last time I'd seen Lecorum was a wee while back at The Lamp ... no I must have seen them since then...I can't remember, it was a while ago, anyhoo I was more than happy to clobber my way to the front of the crowd to watch them again at The Sesh to refresh my ears with these Lecorum queers.

Their music can be described as Piano pumping Indie pop Rock and every song in their Sesh set list sounded spot on, like it had been rehearsed a thousand times, and even if it had, the four some didn't look like they were tired of playing their tunes but like they were absolutely loving every minute of it. I don't know about you but if a band look like they're having a cracking time playing, then I reckon that energy is passed onto the crowd, it passed onto me anyways, I had a great grin on all the way through.

Lecorum aren't like your average Hull band. Firstly they look like they've had a wash unlike most, they've already exploded onto the national scene and you could tell that all 4 of them were in love with their music and instruments. Front man Chris not only has an amazing voice but a fantastic Fender and a pedal board that looks like something you'd see in Star Wars, Fletchy had a sparkling silver bass, Joe had a gorgeous silver plated 'Lecorum' sign on his bass drum and Damo was sat behind his piano that was as long as a three piece suite. These guys mean the biz!

Every song was as entertaining as the last, as all 4 of them played with tremendous energy. Chris and Fletchy make an awesome presence together and even Damo who was sat down playing the piano was shuffling around like a dog wiping its bum on the carpet. The pic below taken by Mark Knaggs shows you what I mean....

Not forgetting the drummer Joe who had beef sweats running down his face from his bish bashing that even caused one of the drums to fall down just one song in. As if the songs themselves weren't enough, Damo played mini interludes of 'The entertainer', and other similar piano jibber jabber in-between songs, which made everything that little more fun.

I do have a soft spot for Lecorum, it's not only their music that I love but the determination and genuine drive that these guys have to entertain. They look like naturals and seeing as though they've only been going since 2007, that’s a huge achievement; it proves they've got their heads screwed on, they know what they want and they know where they're going. Put it this way, you wouldn't see Lecorum telling fans to fuck off on stage or going to after parties and taking drugs till 6 in the morning... these are nice boys and it'll all pay off, in fact it started to already hasn't it?

Treat yourself to their album Clockwork or just have a taster of their tracks on good old myspace...  http://www.myspace.com/lecorum
