Kiki ‘n’ Bouba
‘The freshest Bar in Hessle’?
1 Swinegate, Hessle is now home to new bar Kiki 'n' Bouba.
With The Weir Bar & Grill back in business, Hessle is fast becoming a bustling place to go on a night out with more and more choice of Pubs & Bars in the area. The more the better we always say.
Kiki 'n' Bouba is just round the corner from Hessle square (Swinegate) and has settled itself down on a nice big corner plot making it hard to miss! The Name 'Kiki 'n' Bouba' not only sounds pretty fun to say but does have some very interesting meaning behind it. I wont bore you with the full details but refers to something along the line of, 'crossmodal perception & multisensory integration' - Ok I can tell that reading that sentence has bored you already so here are a few examples; Dry wine, Smooth Guiness etc etc, you catch my drift?
The layout itself is an odd shape and so is the font in it's logo, but although it may look like it's been drawn by a 6 year old, there is further meaning behind it referring to some other psychological jibber jabber within the 'Kiki & Bouba' Study where 98% of people matched a spikey star with the word 'Kiki' and a round, bubble like shape to represent the word 'Bouba'. The layout of the place also reflets this by having a 'Curvy' main bar and an 'Angular' Dancefloor, get it? Ok so that's your Psychology lesson over, more about the place.
As you walk into the venue, the bar is directly your right hand side so no messing about, straight to the bar! There's another bar as you contine through the venue into the main room, which has a huge dancefloor and also a risen area at the front of the building with huge sofas and chairs as demonstrated below by Hullvibes Cameraman Brian and Fay...

As well as huge seats, 2 bars and a dancefloor, there's also another dancefloor as you walk further through the building with the DJ booth inbetween the two sections. This area is huge with a screen on the back wall flashing funky lighting and moving shapes to make you move and pull out your shapes. Music on the opening night was a mixture of everything from the 60's to now to suit everyones musical pallet. We're informed that in the future Kiki 'n' Bouba could also be the home to live Jazz bands, Indie bands and many other DJ's and Artists so keep your eyes peeled!
