New Year, New Adventures!

Firstly, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fantastic New Years Eve, whatever you were doing.

As I’m sure your all partied out now the season of goodwill is over and most probably will have drank more in the past 2 weeks than you have all year, I regret that I have!

Lets not sit in misery during the most depressing month of the year but bask in the memories that 2007 has brought to us.

I present, (in my opinion)

Hullvibes best bits of 2007!

My first day at Hullvibe, 23rd April: Eager to hit the city, camera in hand, ready to gatecrash gigs with flapping opinions. I was like an excitable dog when someone comes to the front door, grinning from ear to ear on my first day with pulled up socks and new lunch box J I’d entered a whole new world, and i couldnt wait to get started!

Sunday 6th May: Deja Vu’s 15th Birthday. Freezing cold and blazing winds on the top of a double decker bus, but this didn’t stand in the way of the Deja Vu bus. This wasn’t your average £1.20 fare into town stagecoach, this bus was banging with its own DJ on decks upstairs, balloons and party people! Crawling the city, blasting out music as the party punters used the top deck as a dancefloor with superstar DJ Sandy Riviera busting his moves before he played at Deja Vu! –There was only one bus to ride that Bank Holiday weekend, and that was the Deja Vu bus! Aah memories! –Missed it? The videos are up on www.hullvibe.co.uk

Sunday 27th May: The 1st Different Language Terrace Party.

The 2 old school friends Martin H and Rob R took to the decks on the Terrace of the Lamp for the first time. Great success! Who’d have thought that this small terrace party filled with BBQ food, wall grapes, Mexican drapes and 2 brilliant DJ/producers could create such a storm! The Lamp had a reputation for being that, ‘chilled out place’ on the top end of Bev Road until this date, the terrace was a dancefloor! And it didn’t stop their as the whole of Lamp was transformed into a dancefloor when the party carried on inside! Different Language had created something special! And these events carried on thoughout the rest of 2007! Watch out for these 2 in 2008, who knows what they’ve got up their sleeves!

Friday1st June: Shinobi’s Alternative end of year ball.

Now i’m not a student, so i’m a big fan of an end of year ball that invites the whole city! At this wasn’t your average Prom do. Shinobi pulled out all the stops to put on a brilliant show with the hypnotizing scratch perverts on decks and Epoc Playing live in the Ballroon. This event will definately be a remembered one of 2007! Keep up the brilliant line ups Shinobi!

14th July: Hullvibes 1st Birthday!

Celebrating a whole years worth of dedication to your city life with freebies, cameras and pink Hullvibe ladies. It was a long night as we city crawled around as many pubs, bars and clubs as possible all in one night. I don’t know how Santa manages it, i was ready for bed and falling asleep after our 10th stop.

13th August: I packed my bags to the other side of Yorkshire to meet Melvin Benn (The guy behind Leeds Festival) to find out the latest info of 2007’s music packed weekend on behalf of Hullvibe, to gather info to bring back for all you Leeds festi floozies. After finding out we were both Hull born and bread, I managed to sneek a few free tickets on the sly to bring back to Hulls music lovers. A fun filled weekend followed. 1st September: East Park Rocks with Hullvibe.

The hard work that Park Ranger Tony Walters and I had done payed off. East Parks first ever free music festival, and it was rockin’. The sun was shining from 11am start and didn’t stop until it went down, with 5,000+ people attending, we couldn’t have asked for a better response. I’ll be giving Tony a call shortly with fingers crossed that we can play out in the park again this year!

Again if you missed it watch the video on Hullvibe or have a gander in the gallery.

October: Brought a new event to the City. The start of Hulls 1st Comedy festival all began in October. A whole host of smart a**es bringing a smile to Hulls face! Lets hope we get another this year.

7th November: One of my favourite days of  ’07.

As i’d been working on Hullvibe for a good few months now it’d turned me into a bigger gig pig then ever. So when i was asked if i wanted to attend the launch of Guitar Hero 3 in Hoxton, London I squealed at the chance! I felt like Babe, Pig in the city as i stood in a room the size of Adelphi listening to John Lydon from the Sex Pistols babble on about illegal imigrants and later was a dog hairs length away from Maximo Park and Funeral For A Friend Performing Live. One i’ll definately remember!

22nd December: YoYo had had a busy one this year with it’s move to The Piper Club. But this December they showed off their settlement at their Christmas Party! Fonda 500 performed live and punters were welcomed into the Piper Club by a fire eater! It was a packed night and the dancefloor was looming, even more so when the 10ft Butterfly wandered in and started dancing with the punters! To see what i mean, check out the video. Congrats on a successful year YoYo.

2007 brought many other memorial moments such as the not so brilliant Smoking Ban (in my opinion), Reborns Halloween party in May?! A new nightclub, The Sugarmill, small independent fashion boutiques popping up overnight, Club extentions, new festivals, and bigger names coming to Hull such as The Who, Kaiser Cheifs, The Thrills and did i mention i gave The Holloways a ride from the Train Station as i saw them looking lost in Hull Station last month? Not forgetting Fuels make-over, New cinemas and St Stevens arrival and 2007 even stirred up Hulls first ever cocktail competition!

All this in one year, so chin up, January may be depressing but who knows what new adventures the New Year could bring!

Have a good one!
