‘A night in the life of’ EP OUT NOW!
For those of you aware of the local music scene you’ll have heard Afterglow or the name should ring a bell, afterall these guys have been self promoting to the max just lately and getting involved with the usual Hull circuit, which they’ve been welcomed into with open arms for sometime.
I was at The Sesh the other week, Afterglow being one of the acts, when lead singer Will grabbed me whilst having a fag out the front and handed me an envelope written on ‘Hullvibe’. At first i thought ‘Hullvibe isn’t my name and its not my birthday so what else could it be?’ I opened it up to discover it was a copy of their new EP ‘A night in the life of’ along with an invitation to the launch of their EP at the Adelphi club.
Sadly i couldn’t make the EP launch but seeing as thought these guys clearly had themselves orgainised on the promotional front it was only fair that i took out a little time to do a bit of Afterglow research.
I shoved the CD into my laptop, grabbed my oversized headphones and reminised the sound of Afterglow that i recognised from seeing them previously (both times being at The Sesh weirdly enough)
Theres a big difference when seeing a band live and just hearing them on CD. Live these guys really do make an effort in their electric performance and you really witness the harmonies between Will and Joe which work brilliantly live and its rare that you see a band with more than one voice nowadays, not forgetting Rucko who adds in the odd ‘Woah’.
My favourite song on thie EP i’d have to say is ‘Electric Eyes’, It has everything. An upbeat chorus, brilliant guitar solo and a load of ‘woooah woah woahs’ which all gell together to make one tasty rock sandwich. Having seen these guys at The Sesh before, they’re not your average Sesh band, neither your average Hull band or indie band, which sets them apart from the sometimes overcrowded Hull scene.
Every song on the EP has it’s own exploding guitar solo, which breaks up the tunes quite nicely and puts out a climax on each.
To really appreciate the effort the band put into their playing I’d reccomend taking a look at the vids they’ve got up on their myspace, I took out 10 minutes to watch them today and was peeing my pants at watching their video diary of recording, wish i’d have been there,. Looks like they had a right trolley doing it all and showed that they’re not some self obsessed, ‘we’re the best band in Hull’ Big heads but just a group of guys out for a laugh and kicking out some stonking riffs along the way.
If you want to hear them for youself, do the usual of checking their myspace, there you can buy a copy of their EP which is also avaliable on itunes and napster downloads.
I’ll look forward to seeing how things turn out for these guys, one EP down, you don’t know what they’ll kick out next.
Afterglow...for all your Indie Rock needs.
Good luck guys,
Hullvibe
