Anybody knows whats happened to them? Great live local band who followed the Beautifull South on Tour. Mike Greaves actually wrote Northern Rose for the South. Saw them loads of times in the old Shoulder of Mutton on a Friday night, best night in town in those days (late 90,s) Last seen performing live in Polar Bear the same night Van Morrison played the City Hall. Why Im here what about those old pubs??? Remember Grapes on Clough Road? Saw a live mod band there one night called Spoil, absolutley top class, all the Jam covers, early Beatles ect. The place was rocking. Heres an old memory jerker, The Brick House??? If you remember that your very old. It was behind Central Libary in town. Classic rock venue your mams and dads used to use. Story goes Bowie visited one night with Mick Ronson and the backing group Spiders from Mars, later went onto LAs which was called either Tiffanys or something equally as naff. Anyway Bowie wrote Is there Life on Mars? after that week end in Hull. Listen to the lyrics of Life on Mars, its classic Hull at chucking out time on a Saturday night in the 70s. Bowie stopped at Ronsons mothers house on Greatfield Estate, there should be a plaque on the wall saying David Bowie slept here but there isnt.

What about the Beatles playing the old dancehall on Holderness Road on Hull Fair week in the 60s, good story there, the venue is now a carpet warehouse, arnt they all? just behind the Windmill pub. The warm up band was the Hull band of the time the Aces who appeared on Ready Steady Go and Juke Box Jury, huge pop tv programmes of the time, real cutting edge stuff. Only about two dozen turned up for the Beatles concert, thier first visit to Hull and the same week they reached number one in the charts. When they returned to Hull six months later to play the ABC fans queued all night for tickets, it was chaos, the band couldnt be heard for screaming teenagers. Before the first concert on Holderness Road the Beatles went for a pint in the Windmill, all dressed in black leathers as theyd just come back from Hamburg, looking very hip as no-one had seen groups dressed like this before. John Lennon was really talkative with the few locals that reconised them, and the lads just sat and chatted for a good hour before it was thier time to go on stage. Amazing that, imagine that today?

I played a few times at Grapes down Clough Road. Great gig whoever you were playing with. I was with Steve Powell a few times and Clocks .... later Clox I think, The Cox brothers .... great fun. Bestobel House was a riot behind the Polytechnic, loads of fun, The Welly Club of course. Havent been out in Hull for years. Is there much trouble these days?

Hi Al. Must see if Ive got tickets for the Middlesborough game. Will pop in to the shop and see you next week. Id have thought your night at Springhead must be about the best isnt it? Isnt the rest of the week mainly open mic (i.e. "entertain yourselves" night)? Do The Aces do much in G or C? I could bring my harmonicas down if you wanted! :-) Itll be nice to have Mr. Greaves gigging again! Deano to score the winner v Stoke?

Well, with Ryanair only giving you 15kg baggage allowance, you cant bring more than a couple of harmonicas.

Middlesborough tickets confirmed next week I hope.

We should knock this on the head ... our posts have now no M G Greaves content at all!! Apologies everyone!

Great news that he will be doing some gigs again. I always look in the HDM. I did see that he was on in Cottingham but spotted it too late to go.
Used to see him most weeks when he rehearsed/played in the Oak Vaults ( as well as elsewhere) & we had him play for us at our 25th anniversary do at the Adelphi in 98.
I hope that his gigs will be fully advertised!!!
