THE TRUTH ABOUT THE GRAPEVINE

1. Established in 1962 The Grapevine is now a worldwide phenomenon with events taking place in 17 different countries. In Paris it is called “Le Grapevine”. In the Falkland Islands, they call it The Grapevine.

2. The Grapevine has twice been voted “best club night” by “Reader’s Wives” magazine and was awarded a special prize for outstanding achievements in the field of disconess by readers of "Inside Detective" in 1983.

3. On average in 2006, The Killers were requested at least 3000 times a night. Kings Of Leon hold the record for the most requests in 36 seconds - 28 times. Manic Street Preachers have never been requested.

4. A recent law passed in Cuba has made attendance at the Havana based Grapevine compulsory for everyone under the age of 65.

5.Between them the resident Grapevine DJs own a total of 7 records. One of which is a bit scratched.

6.The new venue is the talk of the town quite literally.
Its name in France translates to class and in Nigeria means ladies front bottoms. In Jamaica, it has something to do with soap and showers.

7.Grapevine resident and all round hairy beast "DJ Paddy" drinks nothing but gin. Ever. Stevie Wonders is partial to drinks with vowels in their names, whilst Mak likes Drumsticks and Chupa Chups (Only the strawberry and cream ones !)

8. None of the DJs can mix apart from Steve who has learnt how to move the crossfader over from left to right.
Mak is worried about Steves progress !

9. Grapevine design guru Steve "the squirrel" Snowdon created the worlds first disco ball in 1954 using only his frozen tears.

10. Mak once had hair back in the late 70s / early 80s in the style of famous footballer Chris Waddle.
He lost it in 1990 after being stung by a jellyfish !

Really looking forward to the return of Grapevine and by the look of that set list, its looking freaking awesome! Itll be great to here local music, electro, indoe and motown all in one room. Im so excited i think im going to have a stroke!!!!! weeeeeeeeeeee!!!

i do now have a completely unavoidable uni thing at 9am on wednesday morning, but i might have to come to a few of these anyway. bollocks to hangovers.

First at The Sesh with LIBERTY STANDS headlining alongside two brand new local outfits, THE PAPERSHAKERS and THE REVOFFS starting from 9pm followed by the relaunch of THE GRAPEVINE at Hulls newest venue, CHI CHIS (Formerly Zebra).

FREE TRANSPORT from 11.30 -12pm to the aftershow at CHI CHIS from outside Linnet on Prinny Ave and FREE TRANSPORT home from 2.30 - 3am from CHI CHIS to JACKSONS on Prinny Ave. Word has it, theres an afterclub party in the crisp and chocolate aisle in Jackos from 3.15am being organised by Big Issue Fave, Cyril.

GUEST DJs THE TITS will be doing a set between 11 and 12 followed up by Stevie Wonders and Mak.

Its not just an INDIE Night !!! Its much more than that ... its a humdinger !! A GRAPEVINE party not to be missed !!!

The backroom sadly isnt quite ready just yet but DJ Paddy will be about making his presence felt whilst Grapevine sidekick Martin will be on Promo duty throughout. The VIP room shall be open to all for the first week to give you a taste of the high life whilst the Rooftop Terrace awaits the heavy breathers !!! Smoke yourself silly and catch the citys landscape all at the same time.

Huge thanks to all the support weve recieved over the last couple of weeks since THE GRAPEVINEs relaunch at CHI CHIs.
The club itself is still a work in progress, with extras being added every week, including a cute little backroom that opens on the 16th DEC with DJ PADDY finally getting his chance to to make you dance to a selection of eclectic beats and treats.



Special mention to THE TITS and DJ ANDY J for their brilliant DJ guest slots on the first two weeks and Im sure well be seeing more of them in the new year at THE GRAPEVINE and elsewhere.

This Tuesday.. 16th December, weve invited THE GARYS to take to the decks and on the 23rd December, we welcome the one and only, UNKLE DAVE for a special Xmas DJ Set.

PLUS ....THEREs a special NEW YEARS EVES EVE GRAPEVINE being planned for the 30th DECEMBER, so you dont have to worry about missing out on all the fun if youve got family parties to attend on the 31st with an amazing line up at THE SESH beforehand alongside live football with HULL CITY on the big screen early doors.

THE CLIQUES, KILL SURF CITY, THE IVYSINS and THE HOLY ORDERS are all confirmed to play.
