The topic of these threads is Nights out in Hull and its becoming extreamely obvious that there aint that many!
can you really have a night out in Hull???
I just feel that the whole nightlife scene is pretty slim pickins
Prinny Ave- Aye, the busiest place to be on a weekend by WHY?! its rubbish, the bars close early, it takes forever to get served and if your planning on making a night of it you need to get a taxi to carry on the party elsewhere.
Princes ave used to be the place to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre but nowadays its just as bad...so bad that its even attracted lucky lucky men that sell flashing plastic crap and roses for chavs to give to chavettes.
Princes ave has gone down the pan, dont you agree?

I went down there once...took half hour to get served, the beer was crap and twice as much as i paid elsewhere. People have bought into Prinny ave as "the place to be" and its exploited as such.
It has been going down hill for the past 6 months (according to my taxi driver) and now people are looking more towards their locals.
Sounds boring but i prefer local pubs. No taxi home, service is fast, mates can chill and there is usually very little trouble because everyone knows everyone. Also, you still have money in your pocket when you get to the kebab shop...and when you get home.
I think its the first time we have agreed on something CrankyHarold.

I dnt even think its the place to be anymore......maybe the place to be if you wanna get ripped off or the, place to be if your a chav trying to turn a new leaf.
such a shame, but fear not, the rowdy weekend princes ave followers have usually travelled East (Hull) by the time the weekends over, so i wouldnt write it off during the week.
Sticking to your locals usually a good idea but ive got more chance catching aids in my local than catching a decent pint. I reckon its just worth carrtying on walking down prinny ave till you get to newland, before the weekend sheep follow

i totally agree!
dont go down prinny ave very often if at all...
local pubs are the future i think... more people would rather meet up ina local then have the hassle of taxis..... plus prices are soo much cheaper!!!

I do see a pattern though.
Hockneys/mainbrace etc were "The place to be" until the chavs turned up and ruined what used to be a "ok" night.
Midweek at Prinny ave is a good place to go to get something to eat. L&L quiz night is supposed to be good as well (although i aint been yet nor am i any good at quizes) but that is as far as i would go.
Newland (all be it, the refusal of a new varsity bar has knocked it back a bit) seems to be a good choice. expecially when you have piper to fall back on at the end of the night without the need to venture in town.
I personally like the Lamp/Welly/Ringside area (all be it, i am slightly biased) as we dont seem to get that many chavs about to ruin it but i am sure they will try...one day.
I am not a indie person, a rocker, a chav nor any other genre...i consider myself to be an "Average Joe" who likes a beer, a game of pool, a laugh with mates and a really good night. Not many places to go for that in Hull except (in my opinion) Ringside because i get serves withing 10 seconds, beer is cheap/in date and clean and all my mates are in there...Whether its a friday/sat/sun or during the week...it seems to fit around my mood. Weekends i like to get waisted and try to hit a pool ball. During the week, i just chill.
We all have our preferences but must agree with the fact that i think the Hull pub crawl is dead.

the Hull pub crawl really IS dead! i say house parties are the way forward!
Much cheaper, better music, and full of people you like (most of the time) and you can still smoke in these venues!!

Bikers would generally be on a Friday Night. (Rock Night)p.s. whenever i go past ringside its always either got a load of punk youths outside OR old metal bikers, is that the clientelle?
Thursdays are generally full of live bands so i guess you could call then "Punk Youths" depending on the night. (although it is kept upstairs...we even have darts matches downstairs while the gigs are going on so they cant be that bad)
Saturdays is generally the night i like because all the music that is played is by request (whether old or new) so its like, different every week. I like Fridays because the Rockers are soo friendly. I dont know much of the music but we have a laugh and all get waisted on Jager.
House parties are good...but my house is Ringside so i have to have parties without smoking (even though i am a smoker...how crap is that...and i am also only 28 so love to party).
The general clientelle for Ringside is normally people like me. We open up the pool table...have a few games of Killer. Order chinese or kebab shop, drink loads. Laugh at mates dancing around the pole. Get the bar staff to do "hop scotch" while trying to serve customers. Everyone has a laugh. We also try new drinks out (somtimes sending people over)
Sorry CrankyHarold, i hijacked your thread for a moment (just to clear up misconceptions)...lets get back onto the topic at hand.
I thought Prinny ave was for those with either...too much money... or those with hardly any money trying to get with someone with too much money. It also seems to be a scene thing...why else would people want to wait 30 minutes to get served horrible beer at twice the price.
I cant get my head round it...is that because i am "average"
Re: Princes Ave, a night out??? - Posted: 5 months ago
aye disco dogs right, discodog, ive never seen you on here before, are you local? but anyway, we need more house parties, and although my first opinion of Ringside wasnt a very good one it seems that i could be warming to your hell hole wkd, Your house parties at the ringside are actually starting to sound alright, it was the mention of jager that did it.
Back to the Ave -> how do the chavvy lot that have wandered into our neck of the woods even afford the extortionate prinny Ave Prices, i thought that would scare em off but theyre still bouncing back, in most cases, literally.
Every bar on the Ave has bouncers outside it even though theres never any trouble, i say they use their door staff to turn away this rough looking lot, not perve on em

Just 2 things to say...i could be warming to your hell hole wkd, Your house parties at the ringside are actually starting to sound alright, it was the mention of jager that did it.
1. I have TWO seperate jager machines (each fit 4 bottles of Jager in)
2. We tend to go through 12-15 bottles of jager on Fri and Sat alone.
I think we are Jager capital of Hull...and granted..alot of what is drank is of my own doing...ha ha...but surely i cant drink that much!!!
(I am an addict...my "myspace" page proves it
We took one of the machines to a house party on Boxing day. We "borrowed it" from the pub...filled it and had competitions on who could keep their gob under the tap the longest...it got messy!!!
Oh yes...forgot to mention...drink responsibly

They dont buy the drinks...they mine sweep. Have you ever noticed that your drink goes missing when a chav is about...how do the chavvy lot that have wandered into our neck of the woods even afford the extortionate prinny Ave Prices, i thought that would scare em off but theyre still bouncing back, in most cases, literally.

That is a good thing about a local pub though...there are no need for bouncers because people know the landlord...they respect his premisis and the patrons look after the place.
I have possibly had 2 bits of trouble in the last year. Both instigated by chavs...and both were sorted by regulars.
Finally, that is the reason why the drinks are so expensive...bouncers are VERY expensive...and they have to be paid.

Not a problem...we all have different tastes. Whats good for one is not necessarily good for another. Just like Prinny ave. It may be good for some but not others.to crankyharold, yes i AM local thank you very much, are YOU?

If your more of a clubbin gal, try the "Musique" nights we host. Electro indie at its best.
(see my top friends on www.myspace.com/wkdwalker)
Finally, for now anyway, anyone else have any suggestions on a night to host. Ill give it a go and have a laugh while doing it.

I wouldnt dare go on a punk night. they may only be 13-16 but they are very VERY scarey, loud, and abnoxious (never have been a good speller!)
i reckon they get more trouble at under 18s night at welly then they do all month from the other punters. theres always a police car outside on a friday night, not the best welcome party by all means.
p.s. dear wkd, the last time i went to ringside i drove and after a hard day at work all i wanted was 1 pint to settle my petal, then came to the shock that i was asked for ID and i didnt have any. I was truly devastated, i may have the face of a 4 year old but im actually 20....
dissapointed fan x

what a b*stard. Most of the punks @ Ringside are harmless, Fight The Following play there a fair bit - legendary band.
They are stupidly tight on ID. Never mind.
