| | Posted: Feb 11 2008, 11:45 AM | I had last Friday off work last week so that i could make it in plenty of time to get to the NME shockwaves tour that was happening at Leeds uni.
I was looking forward to being able to go to a gig as a punter, no camera, no video camera, spotters cards, slappers, flyers, posters blah blah blah....not having to take thousands of bags....nothing but myself and a few quid for beer money. brilliant!
I went with my fellow gig pig Ade and we got there at just gone 7, after we'd had time to grab a pint and go for a fag the Ting Tings were on...
Other bands that were on were 'Does it offend you yeah?' -actually they do,
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong and the band we'd actually gone to se - The Cribs
You could have argued that this was actually 'The gayest named bands in the world Tour' But the only band i didnt really give a crap about were 'Does it offend you yeah?' - Even the name puts me right off.
The Ting Tings were great, remind me a little of our very own 'Dance Bastards' but seeing as though they were on first the room wasn't exactley banging the way it should have been. Great thing was you could get right to the front without having to squeeze by a load of fattie drunks.

I didnt get to see that much of Does it offend you yeah? as i was too busy going for a wee, having a fag and getting another pint in before Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong came on, plus i really dont like their name.
I'd seen Joe Lean and the Jabber Wackys (as i like to call them) at Ye Olde Adelphi a few weeks back and they were even better than i thought so i was keen to see them again on the Shockwaves tour.
Whilst we were there Ade and I even got 'Spotted' by the Joe Lean Photographer to go on their tour gallery, which was a nice change, i rarely get to be on the otherside of the camera! Although their gallery isnt updated as quick as ours, my photo isn't up yet!
I'm not gonna kiss their arses but i like nothing better then bopping away to the Joe Lean crew with a pint of Strongbow in hand, its great.
They were fantastic at Adelphi and they still sounded brilliant on the Leeds met stage that can create a bigger atmosphere with the advantage of having more lighting, a bigger stage, smoke machienes and generally being able to hold more people. They played a brilliant set and by that time the room was alot busier. Despite them sounding and looking great I prefered them at good old Adelphi, don't get me wrong, they put on an equally brilliant performance but you just cant beat the atmosphere of a packed Adelphi club with a fantastic band on that cosy stage, Adelphi'll win everytime.
Plus i couldnt concentrate on the last 2 songs at Leeds because i was dying for a piss, never good when your watching a band.

There was a massively long wait inbetween Joe Lean and the Jabber Wackys so me and Ade decided to go for a fag, by the time we came back they were on so unfortunately we werent anywhere near the front, dammit. We could see perfectly but its just not the sme when your surrounded by boring farts who wont dance and 'TUT' at you if you spill your pint on them, i hate people like that, its like, why the f**k have you bothered coming? they just stand their with faces like slapped arses as if they're being forced to stand through the gig. Twats.
So we moved, and pushed and shoved our way closer and closer, pissing off each line of crowd with every movement, i usually hate twats that push to the front but when your surrounded by boring sods, they deserve to step aside and let the true fans through, dont you agree?
The crowd got messier and messier as we finally got about 3 people from the front, thats better! and i found myself being shoved into the the middle of a pit, i didn't think pits still existed? especially at indie gigs, OH YES THEY F**KIN DO! I was the only female in the equation but stood my ground as best i could and didnt give 2 shiney shites that my strapless bra had found its way to my belly button and my hair had fallen out of its pony, its just not what your bothered about when your right infront of The Cribs
They played just about every good song they've ever done, it was brilliant, with the odd kid or two tryin to crowd surf over me that i can never keep up, sorry!
Just as you thought the gig was ready to close, Smiths legend Johnny Marr was announced on Stage and played another 3 songs with the guys. The crowd went crazy! and all of a sudden i was pushed to the side somehow and lost Ade, nevermind. I stayed at the side to grabbed some pics and danced with a bloke who'd lost his shoe halfway through the gig.

Red faced and dripping with sweat the gig was over and i was gasping for a drink, freah air and a fag in no particular order. Knacked and looking gross we left Leeds Uni to go back to the hotel for a quick costume change before going out again.
I've found a video of Johnny Marr jamming with The Cribs on NME.com, Have a look for yourself; CLICK HERE www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=10&p=3296&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
And i also took a few pics whilst i was there of course CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE GALLERY www.hullvibe.co.uk/gallery.php
AND i also spotted a few familiar faces from Hull whilst i was there, always good to see a friendly face!
