I went to go see Maximo Park at Doncaster Dome on Friday and they were BRILLIANT!
Not sure what i think about the dome as a venue through. Something didnt seem quite right about seeing a load of chavs queuing up to go to the ice skating disco as you were wealking through to go catch a band.
but...they DID do pint and halfs of cider, which went down well. And i even got to catch a bit of Hull band Kill Surf City who were playing in doncaster after the gig.
They were playing in a club called the priory, which was a smallish indie club which seemed to be inside a mini shopping centre, which you COULd smoke in
My friend Hollie, found a little food hub called Tortillia, whcih funnily enough only sold one kind of tortillia. And i got a delish pizza from some sort of takeaway.
Not even a trace of a weak song in their set and they put on a good show
I'd been warned that the dome was the worst venue in the world so I dunno if it was just coz I had low expectations but I didn't think it was too bad
I wouldn't call it great either but I think any of these new type of venues that are designed to hold lots of different types of events are ever gonna be that good when it comes to gigs coz they try to cover too many bases
I'd say the sound was better than somewhere like hull arena though and at least they had smoking areas etc
The Dome's been on the go for years, I remember seeing Garbage on their second album tour there and it was an absolutley brilliant gig with great sound but the main room was very much like a massive school gym.
Do you still have to walk in down a corridor where you can see into the swimming/fun pools? Very weird on the way to a gig lol
yeah its exactley the same, i remember going there on a school trip once years ago and it hasnt changed.
altho i was quite jelous seeing people jumping down the awesome slides, kinda made me want a go, especially after a few pint and halfs! :-)
And it does still look like a huge school gym
the bouncers were very helpful, especially the one who very kindly put my coat in the back for me until after the gig because there were no lockers and ifd forgotten to leave it in the car.....i doubt your reading this dony bouncer man but just incase you ae ...thank you, thank you very much
