Just been having a scout round for tonight (Wednesday 13th June) and there seems to be so many gigs on !!!!

These are the ones I know of:

Acoustic Wednesday at The Tigers Lair featuring Canadian Geoff Berner plus local supports
Durty Nellies - Tarifa plus others
Lamp - Sidekicks Lounge
Sullivans Bar - Square 1 with 59 Violets
Adelphi - nothing this week which is surprising
Three Tuns - open mic
Goose & Granite - metal bands
King Billy - Torsohorse (I think)

Just how many gigs on one night!!!!!! Plus ones I have forgotton or missed, the same thing happened a few months ago with acoustic nights and as far as I know ours is the only one still running on a Wednesday after other venues realised nicking others peoples audiences wasn't working.

Honest thoughts and suggestions welcome,

cheers Darren, Music HQ

I'm still wary of the fact we're (Square One) clashing with so many other gigs on Wednesdays, i'd rather do Thursdays and try push it as a warm up for welly... still I think as long as each gig offers something slightly different then it's ok.

Thanks to everyone that came along last night, good turnout, great bands and except for the fact that I forgot my ipod (silence inbetween bands, aarrgh!) then I think it went pretty good.

personally i dont hink you can have too many as long as you've got enough to go round, which Hull hasnt.

better get some out of town bands in because most of ours are circling Hull so much that im starting to go dizzy

Any out of towners you'd particularly like to see Miss Muppet? Always happy to hear suggestions! Having moved to Springhead it gives us alot more scope to have bigger out of towners in (I was always wary of what they'd think to bloody dorchester!).

Having said that have had some amazing gigs in the last few weeks with local bands on. Lecorum/Lavellion/Jokerz gig had 200 or so in last wednesday and was one of the best unsigned gigs i've had the pleasure of being involved in. The brilliant 59 Violets, Alison Angus, Zealots and Black & White Tango this week should be another good night (although we're competing with that lot at the KC!)

Back to the original point, we've been through this before and i'm sure this thread was much fuller! I'm always happy to accept more venues putting bands on (who are we to stop them) as long as they're doing it for the right reasons.
